Comments would be appreciated on use of 5052 aluminium fuel lines vs 3003 aluminium. I am planning a fuel system for 601HD/Corvair and will be using some braided flex lines (probably from Summit) and some solid lines. I believe that most use 5052 but shipping is an issue because I understand that 5052 cannot be coiled to stay within USPS package length restrictions. 3003 can be coiled to reduce package length. I will probably purchase solid fuel line from Aircraft Spruce or Wicks. According to USPS website the maximum length for standard $23.00 parcel postage to Canada is 108" including girth, thus my preference for 3003 aluminium.

Bob,

I also have been researching this same question recently. I talked to a few local RV guys and they both received the coiled tubing as a part of their kits. I will be doing the same and ordering 3003 from Aircraft Spruce.

Good luck,

I was just planning on going with the braided line from Summit. Single line straight from each fuel tank to the selector knob.

I'm not as far along as you, so maybe I'm being overly simplistic.

I am interested in what you decide to do.

Hi Bob,
5052 aluminum fuel line is for high pressure, 3003 aluminum fuel line is
for low pressure applications where aircraft systems are involved.
Unless you're going to do a fuel injected system or other where
pressures exceed the normal fuel pumps at less than 10 p.s.i., your use
of 3003 should be fine.

Thanks for info on 3003 aluminum fuel lines. The archives was also helpful.

I presume that .035 thickness in 3003 is generally used for fuel lines. Can
anyone confirm this.

Hi Bob,
You'll find .035 is the size that is nearly always used.

Based upon the info I could find at the time, I ordered 5052 for my system. I will be using flex lines to connect to the hard line from the wing to the plumbing to/from the selector and in other locations as appropriate. I just ordered some pieces cut to the max length that UPS would accept without an oversize charge. A three foot piece is more than long enough for anyplace in the system.

Take my advice and buy a tubing bending tool..... you'll be happier with the result.

Tim
