I've bought an HKS 700e and want to start making a motor mount for it.
I'm flying on my 582 but want to sell it outright or part it out. I
hate to do it now that good flying weather is coming but have to
sometime.

So the parts for sale are:
* 582 engine with ~190hours on a new crankshaft, ~12 hours on new Pro-X
pistons and all new engine seals. Yes, the crankshaft seals are the
red-lined ones from Rotax$$$.
* C gearbox 3:1 gears and new seals; prop-shaft and gear service letter
done by South Mississippi.
* Mag end electric starter set.
* Engine mount for later model 3 that should fit most models. White
powder coated.
* Ceramic coated exhaust system - still looks great, no corrosion.
* EGT probes for same.
* Oversized radiator for Georgia/Florida weather.
* Standard radiator for winter.
* Set of radiator vanes to control air through standard radiator ->
needs final trimming and set up, needs a Bowden cable.
* Cabin heater and fan.
* All heater/cooling hoses and pipes.
* Pulse fuel pump with fresh (12 hours) overhaul kit.
* Brass cooling filler pipe/Cap and plastic overflow bottle and mount.
* Nalgene plasic oil bottle and metal mounting frame.
* GSC Tech III prop and spinner -> the blades are old but I'm still
flying them.
* 2 Key West Voltage regulators.
* Westach water temp gauge and probe.
* Rotax tachometer.
* Rochester Voltmeter
* Rochester Ammeter.

I'm currently flying this plane and hope to be out this weekend and some
next weekend but eventually will have to pull the engine to start the
motor mount. If the flying weather gets too nice it may be later in the
fall. If someone want to come see it or go flying in it let me know. I
have lots of pictures available as well.

Cheers,

Mark Napier

Hello Mark. It's amazing how close your FWF is to my own. Almost
identical. In any case I'd be very interested in performance numbers on
your new engine package. I have a mid-time 582 also and would like to
replace it come rebuild time. The HKS is one option, the 912 is the
other as the Jabiru dealers here in Canada have proved unreliable. I
suspect the HKS might come close to the Jabiru in some respects with
it's lower prop RPM. What model are you flying?

Mark,

Isn’t the old 532 "flat plate" mount, -the same as the HKS-700 mount??

Cheers.

The BMW 1100S is a modern engine that don't cost a lot, modern electronic injection, cheep on fuel, cheep to buy, 85-90 useful HP (depending on RPM) the torque is almost constant, I have pic from a guy in Poland that replaced his VW 1835 with a BMW he more then doubled the climb rate. speed up to VNE on his dragy TULAK (highwing side by side plane, MTOW 450 kg / 1000 lbs)

The pic is big is size so if any one want to see I can send to your private mail.

I looked for a BMW engine. The "C" gearbox with 3:1 gearing is supposed
to be a good match. However, those engines are hard to find and
expensive here in the southeast US. Also the all up weight is heavy for
a Kitfox III but probably is about the same as a full electric VW. I
agree, however, that the low-speed thrust and power from that package
would be very impressive.

This is some words from Jakub in Poland. //Jan.

In fact .. I'm former user of VW now. My solution was BMW modern R series bike engine. Jan know me as one from aviation BMW enthusiast, I spent few last years in this project... and finally, after aeroconverting ~35 engines, I'm installing it in my plane.
I am part of non commercial group of BMW enthusiasts formed around <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Czech Flying School near Ostrava. My personal responsibility is electronic and wirings.

First - the power, I recommend BMW 1100S or 1150RT, R, RS, all have around 80-85hp(at)6850rpm (max at 7200 is more than 90hp advertised)

Second - the weight... Engine with Czech PSRU have 78kg (dry, no oil cooler and no exhausts). The CoG is 20cm from flat back of engine (From alternator ark
had to see photo,

Third - the fuel consumption... 0.167kg/hp/h (when typical for other engines is 0.225) its fuel injection!!! In normal terms - typical and well known CH601 ZODIAC fly patterns in flying school 10 l/h. Amazing... isn't it?

Fourth - the price... look, all our engines came from wrecked bike, You can buy it in excellent state for 1100-1300-1500 EURO, then PSRU will cost from cheaper Polish 800 EURO thru great and quite cheap Czech 1200-1400 EURO to expensive German unit 2400EU. I preferred Czech one...
You will need wiring conversion, You can do it yourself or I can do it for You (~200EURO). Put it all together in one hour... and will have strong and reliable unit. (The clean engine will be untouched.) Proven in many installations.

Fifth - known problems: vibrations (its two cyl, boxer) need well designed engine frame, centrifugal clutch - causing bigger drag when disengaged, hot exhaust problematic in wooden/epoxy designs, hot oil need really big cooler. Big height of engine can make problems with installation too. Former versions of PSRU had a lot of problems. Now - all are fixed. All problems we had, all are cured now. (Can You believe so we did ~25 sets of internal PSRU parts till got good results?)
