Around the gill shutter ring is an anti-chafing strip that (having discussed it with Doug Sapp) is secured by the plates riveted to the ring. So it's not a separate, replaceable part.
My gill shutters are in fabulous shape. My anti-chafing strip is not.
Anybody got any ideas for replacing it with some kind of modern material and glue that would hold up?

Jon-
I used some felt strip (2x120”, 3/16” thick) from Grainger (Item #2FJB9) and Polycord waxed thread (.030) from www.mainethread.com. and my better half sewed it on. Works fine but one corner needs re-sewing, but afraid to tell wife her work was sub par, ha, ha!😅 so it’s flapping around a little on one end, but only on a cowl off engine run - Hoot

I’ve used cowhide leather strap as an anti-chafe on wire/hose, cowl rub areas and when layered, as baffle seal. Survives our sometimes oil rich environment and easy to cut, drill/punch and pop-rivet/zip tie. Fairly cheap too. “Wanderingbull.com”

I use a bicycle inner tube, cutting out the stem and trimming to fit. No need to sew or use any screws. Stretches to hold into place.

Jon and Group,
We use a convertible top material for the Yaks. I don't know if our cushion
rings would fit the Huosai/CJ ring.
The axles will loosen up and need to be checked on condition inspection, at
least. I would not cover those up with material. Don;t negate the
importance of the seal for the proper fit and seal of the cowling. You can
easily spend 1/2 a day rigging the louvers and cowling. Indications of poor
fit are cracked louver blades, sagging cowl lord mounts and cowl halves
chewing one another up because of overlap.
