I decided to remove the old fairings the old struts that I have
replaced. I won't use them over but thought it might be worth hanging
onto them for a bit. Under the polyfiber covering I found heavily sanded
bright metal where the primer came off with the polyfiber and smotth
primer in the areaa where it didn't. The wood looks like nice straight
grained pine and still smells like freshly cut, very dry and light. In
the area downstrut from the jury strut mounts where weather or
condensate has been able to gather for about two feet there is very
heavy and scaly rust I took a wire brush to to it and then cut it in
several sections in this area and I don't think it represents anything
that would fail, yet. I just figured I'd mention it as a potential area
of concern. these are Denney/Skystar struts from 1991. The inside is
still dull grey and appears to have an oil coating.
