Dave:
I had a similar experience with my ex KF II. The wood fairings were removed after the plane had been grounded for about a year. What we found in one of the lift struts was a hole on the wing lift strut right under one of the jury strut attach brackets. It was obvious that the wood fairing was retaining water concentrated in that point.
To fix the problem, we obtained two brand new wing lift struts from Kitfox LLC. Since there are no jigs available for earlier/Dan Denney models, we had to send an old strut to be used as a model to copy the dimensions/angles/etc.
I'm very pleased and grateful of the responsiveness and friendly support that I got from John and Debra.
I'm happy to report that on Saturday, Aug 25, I performed the first test flight after the plane was fully restored. "My" Kitfox II has a proud, new owner... but I'm still in love!!!
