Marco asked:

But is there something I'm missing on short field technique in this airplane? Like tossing out an anchor maybe? Wink

Well I like the anchor, but there is something else I can suggest.

I am a relatively low time pilot with about 300 hours – 180 in my fox. I recently added this instrument and really like the thing.

If I were limited to only one instrument on my panel (see the three below), I would go with this one. It is more important than the airspeed or altimeter. I haven’t used it very long and already trust it much more than airspeed. Landing airspeed varies depending upon loading and density altitude. But it is always the same place on the lift reserve gauge. Ditto for Vx, and Vy. This gauge is really neat.

My field is at 4400’ and I often visit a field at about 5900’. My field is about 2000’ long but with 80’ trees on each end. (yeah, Yeah, - chainsaw I know.) This thing gives me much more confidence just knowing where the plane is. When you hit the red, it stalls. – If you are landing. – Or if you in a high G turn. – Or if you are climbing out loaded heavier than you should be. It works! I can climb out at a ridiculous angle now with confidence! I know how much reserve lift I have at all times,

Cruise has the needle pegged to the right. As you slow to land the needle gets active.

It doesn’t use electricity. It backs up other instruments. It has no moving parts – if you don’t count the needle in the gauge. I think everyone should have one.

It would be easier to install prior to covering the wing, but since I have removable wing tips, it wasn’t too bad.

I think everyone should have one. It will make anyone a better pilot. It will certainly help you land shorter. I just get into the yellow coming over the trees and I get stopped using less than half the runway.
