Hi!
Can anyone advise where there is a re-gassing service available. I’m sick of getting clanked on the head !
I don’t really fancy spending about £60 to re-new, IMHO it is a wrong step to take anyway thinking of the environmental carbon footprint !

And what, pray tell, would a "re-gassing service" look like which would
lessen the possibility of recurrent clanking of the head?

One of the most useful things I made for G-IKRK were two 'door-up locks'. Took about 1 minute to make. Take a bit of fuel hose the length of the shiny bit of the strut and slit it all the way along. When you want to doors to stay open, slip it onto the gas strut and the door stays open. If you forget it's there and close the door, it just drops off.
The delux version has a shallow vee cut at one end of the slit to make it easier to put on, but that takes and extra 30 seconds construction time...

RS Components used to have a re-gassing service. Cost was about £20.

Not that I all that old, but maybe switching the struts for the older style
thing used to hold up hatches etc in vans and kitchens could work. they lock at about 1 inch intervals. you just open them to the angle you want and they say put. You must remember to push the button to let them down though or you could break the door.

Bob - you might try Draco of Bidford, who made the custom gas springs
for my trailer ramp. Seems likely that if they can make them from
scratch, they should be able to pump up a used one!

Thanks Roland.

From Google on Draco Bidford I turned up SGS Engineering Derby.01332

I'll call them tomorrow.
Thanks a million.

Hi!
Slight correction to my message below .....the turnround must include
them having the strut overnight to test for leaks after the re-gassing.
They charge GBP £ 12.50 plus vat per strut plus return carriage, and
accept credit card details by 'phone.

All..... Duh!
Pays to look at the manufacturers name on the struts... Industrial Gas
Springs Ltd. 22 Wates Way Mitcham Surrey CR4 4HR Tel 02086466595.
They expect a 3-4 day turnround at GBP £2.96 plus VAT and Postage.
(each)
I'll report back when I get mine back since I've asked them to replace
the plastic ends also.
