Hi there,
I'm flying a Zodiac 601 HDS with Rotax 912 with the water rad unerneath the cowling (original Rotax rad). Depending on the OAT the water temps start to climb to 220 F over a period of 10 minutes or so. During climb out I typically see 210 F. In cruise, the water temps drop to 140 F. CHT temperature on the other hand does stay pretty stable at around 100 F (it's a bit higher, since the sensor is not properly calibrated).
Also, a few weeks ago I had an incident with the Rotax: one of the cooling hoses from the rad to the pump burst open and I lost all coolant fluid in flight. Luckily, I was right over the airpoirt and down at the ground within 4 minutes. During that time, the CHT temps didn't go up despite lack of cooling fluid. Also, the water pump was not damaged due to lack of fluid. Pretty good engine....

Hi!Roger
No. Not that I could tell. Maximum 5 minutes and the coolant is too hot
to make a dash for it! I'm resigned to accept that at present, since
when flying it's fine. I get words of advice that after 10 to 50 hours
it runs cooler anyway.
I tried the half choke setting in flight yesterday and it made no
difference to coolant temps. I thought running richer would have had a
dramatic effect since the guys with a mixture facility can control their
burn really well.
Regards

Thilo:
What caused the radiator hose to burst? Was is a defective hose, loose
clamp, or what?
