The following came to me last night from Ray who lives in Hillsboro and has
a Mustang II. This is a small grass field airport with about ten planes
based there. Phil in Litchfield

................................

I am writing to ask you to help us keep the Hillsboro Airport (3K4) open.
The city council has in the space of a few days announced that they agreed
to negotiate the sale of the airport property to a coal company, and that
they will take action on the sale at Tuesday's council meeting at 7:00 pm,
all with no discussion with the Airport Board, the hangar renters/aircraft
owners on the field, or the public.

Please take a couple of minutes to go to this link to the local newspaper
site and vote anonymously in their online poll.....

http://www.thejournal-news.net/news/

scroll down near the bottom, left side of page. Please vote NO only once,
but feel free to forward this to any other aviation fans you know. We may
not be successful, but I would like them to HEAR US. Maybe we can lock up
the website........

Thanks for your support.

Sorry about the short notice, I just learned about the poll a short time
ago.

Even if it has already been done, it's never a bad idea to contact AOPA about this. We lost Blaine out here in Washington, but sometimes they win.

Good luck!

Well if nothing else you will find out if your city council pays attention to polls conducted by the newspaper.

The only problem is it will be very easy to show that the results are bogus because those of us that responded to your request voted.

<?xml:namespace prefix="v" /><?xml:namespace prefix="o" /><![endif]--> Obviously, someone got to the city council.  Take a page from the tree-huggers manual----Swiftly get a lawyer, even more swiftly have him go to a judge for an injunction pending an environmental impact assessment. They take time. Then, hold a regional fly-in, with breakfast or something, and get every plane you can on field. If a fly-in is too much to attempt, hold an open house. Give rides. Make friends. Have local merchants sell (put that in big letters) SELL food and beverages, so they're reminded of the economic impact. While all that is going on, find out who benefits from the sale. There may only be ten planes based there, but the possibilities loom large. Main thing is, fight back long and loud, particularly against the quickie deal they are orchestrating. Giv 'em hell.
