The following came to me last night from Ray who lives in Hillsboro and has a Mustang II. This is a small grass field airport with about ten planes based there. Phil in Litchfield
………………………………………………………………………………………

I am writing to ask you to help us keep the Hillsboro Airport (3K4) open. The city council has in the space of a few days announced that they agreed to negotiate the sale of the airport property to a coal company, and that they will take action on the sale at Tuesday's council meeting at 7:00 pm, all with no discussion with the Airport Board, the hangar renters/aircraft owners on the field, or the public.

Please take a couple of minutes to go to this link to the local newspaper site and vote anonymously in their online poll.....

http://www.thejournal-news.net/news/

scroll down near the bottom, left side of page. Please vote NO only once, but feel free to forward this to any other aviation fans you know. We may not be successful, but I would like them to HEAR US. Maybe we can lock up the website........

Thanks for your support.

Sorry about the short notice, I just learned about the poll a short time ago.
[b]

you got a NO vote from me. Looks like the VAST majority don't want the sale. I hope you get to keep the airport, I know what it is like to loose an airfield and it sucks!

Phil,

Thanks for the heads up! After I voted the count was 583 against -40 for (or 98% against selling and 6% for selling.) That's pretty impressive, but will it make a difference? Let us know what the City Council does. With a vote like that they should be impeached if they sell the airport. (Of course we know what good impeachment does .)

Phil,

I also took the liberty of sending the email to EAA's Government Affairs Office. Perhaps they can help. I used to work for them and given sufficient notice they can sometimes 'educate' the elected officials. Let's hope for the best.

Ray,
I attempted to cast a no vote for you, however, the link provided on the newspapers site led to the energy company's apparent PR page. No polling to be found. Sorry. I sincerely wish you luck in keeping the airfield open. It is a shame, for every time we hear of another small field lost, lost also is the potential for sparking an interest in aviation in both the young and not so young.( I earned my ticket 3 years ago at the tender age of 45) Small fields are where a lot of dreams begin. I think most people could see themselves at the controls in that beautiful little GA parked over there just off the strip, rather than that airliner parked on the concrete at the gate, waiting for someone else to fly them to their next destination. On that note, I would encourage anyone who hasn't already, join your local EAA chapter, and get involved with the Young Eagles program. It's really an investment in our future. After all, if there were more pilots, then perhaps there would be more sympathetic interests in keeping our fields of dreams. That's my 2.5 cents.

Cheers,
Greg G.
