Occasionally I do a bit of flying the kitfox on Flight Sim I have a model
IV that I've adjusted to fly like a 582 with the right sounds too and of
course changed the colour schemes to match my own plane. The only problem
is my plane is on floats and I haven's seen anything like the Kitfox on
floats. Has any one written one??
I have tried to convert a Super Cub to a Kitfox but can't get the ailerons
right.

Noel

what flight sim? any chance of getting a copy of the plane files? I like to play on the sim while I am at work for 2 weeks and would like to get your plane.

I'd like that too.

Oh ya me too. But someone would have to really spell it out step by step how to do that. I sure don't have a clue of how to alter a cub to a kitfox or to build a virtual plane for SimX. I kind of knew it was possible but it sure would be cool to have some guide to make a 1,2,3,4,5,6,or7 on the program. I'd even buy a new computer that might handle it. If someone could make a download I'd sure buy it. Make my lay-over weekends on the road go a lot quicker! Very Happy

It took me three years to make an excellent model of my Kitfox 3 with a
Jabiru 2200, Leonard. But it is for the X-Plane flight simulator.

Noel is talking about the most common flight simulator: The Microsoft
one. It is an excellent simulator but although I have never modelled an
aircraft with it, I understand that it uses an entirely different
technique that X-Plane. The latter is based on "blade elements." It
means that the entire aircraft is divided into a lot of elements such
as wing sections, each with different coefficients. Microsoft, on the
other hand, works with "look-up tables." It means that if you set the
stall speed to a certain speed, the aircraft will stall at that speed.
For X-Plane, you have to model the entire aircraft, hoping your data
are good, then test fly. If it stalls at Vso then you're very lucky. In
most case, it will take a long time to adjust the model so that it gets
closer and closer to reality.

In my opinion, if you want to test a model, learn about aerodynamics,
then X-Plane is superior as it lets you do a lot more things. E.g.: You
can adjust the tension of the springs between the rudder and the
tailwheel by giving a parameter that is: degree of deflection of one
pound of lateral pressure.

Anyway, a simulator model will never be entirely true to reality. As
Noel discovered our flaperons are very difficult to model. That is
because the added effect of the low pressure on the top of them, due to
the vicinity of the trailing edge of the wing, cannot be reproduced in
a simulator. That would require something called Computational Fluid
Dynamics (CFD) where each portion of air has its own model. It it
possible, but not in real-time that requires at least 12 frames per
second for simulation purpose.
What did I do for my model flaperons? I increased the lift coefficient
to something quite high and sat the stall angle of incidence to be 22
degrees.

Cheers,
Michel Verheughe
