I n the Zenith owner"s manual the "limitation" post the VNE (at) 150. mph, on there web site the vne is 180 ! what's wrong with this picture ? This is for a 601 XL I also haven't seen a stated HP max. I know there are 601's out there with 140 HP, mine is 130 hp . For what? if the Vne is 150. I am prone to belive 180 mph but , don't want to pull the wing's off. Joe N101HD 601 XL/ Subaru

The information I got direct from Zenith gives the Vne of the 601XL at
180mph. Mine is one of the earlier kits with the thinner rear skins. I
have test flown to verify this Vne with no problems. 150mph is the the
Vne of the 601HD, which is probably the model the owners manual you have
was derived from.
This page: http://www.zenithair.com/zodiac/xl/xl-engine.html states a
recommended engine power range of 80 to 125 Hp and up to 300 lbs
installed weight.

Thanks Bryan, the spec. sheet is the one that came with the plans,so it
may be a goof-up at the factory. My XL is the eariler kit also, with the
thin skin, I've been thinking about replaceing the rear deck with .025 it's
like flying in a oil can. Then on the other hand, so was the factory built
XL with the cont. engine. I know one thing mine has passed the" Shake" test
with the" Harley "engine that fist powered it. Thank's again for the info .

Bryan, do you have the dual pick up dist. with dual coil? if so do you have
your tach . hooked to brain part of the coil on one coil? ,or do you have it
tied in to both coils when to switched to Both run up is fine .When
switched to the # 1coil that's running the tach. I get slight break down ,
when switched to the#2 coil every thing is fine, but needless to say no tach
Ever had any thing like this? I am running a UMA tach. Thank's Joe

I have a Nipondenso distributor with a Beck Arnley ignition module in
it. The original Nipondenso module failed before I even started the
engine for the first time. I also have the Stratus backup ignition
module that runs off a pick-up mounted on the starter ring gear. I have
two coils connected through a coil splitter to the single set of plugs.
On the input side of the coils, I have a couple of signal diodes wired
up so that whichever coil is running the engine is also feeding a signal
back to the VDO tachometer. I have my system set up so that only one
coil can operate at a time. I've had no trouble with this setup. The
tachometer came with the Zenith firewall forward package for the Stratus
engine. The ignition system parts all came with the Stratus engine.
