Is there any danger or harm to the engine if I leave
the throttle and prop at "7 squared" for extended
periods of time while just cruising along? I don't
want to foul any plugs, but I have been flying at this
setting as it seems to be fairly economical with
respect to gph.
Thanks,
John P. Graham

There is nothing wrong with running the engine at those settings. Take a
look at the Russian M14 power setting chart. These settings will give you
the most efficient settings. As you will/can see, running the engine
"oversquare" is the most efficient power setting in cruise.

No, not at all. The harm comes in not watching the cylinder head temps and
oil temps. The temps are seldom a problem at 70/700 as long as your gills
(shutters/cowl flaps) are appropriately positioned. That engine like 70%,
80%, 60% ect as long as it is not to hot. She almost bullet proof as long as
you don't get her to hot and especially if you keep her there.

And what IAS might you see at a given altitude, using that 70 squared setting?

wHEN YOU DECIDE THAT YOU CANNOT KEEP THE ENGINE RUNNING BY PUMPING AND MAKING IT TO THE RUNWAY IS QUESTIONABLE DONT FORGET TO PULL THE PROP ALL THE WAY BACK INTO HIGH PITCH- - LOW RPM--- yOU DONT NEED A SPEED BRAKE OUT FRONT
