Reversing propeller
A question to experienced floatplane pilots.
Is a reversing propeller useful on a floatplane. We are building a Murphy Moose powered by the M14 radial engine and wonder if it is worthwhile investing in a reversing prop.
Thanks
Rino

I haven't used a reversing prop myself but the guys I have come in contact with that use them daily say they love 'em. Makes for very short landings, docking and mooring are much easier.
BTW most turbine engines have full beta props. I won't say all turbines until I have seen all turbine setups... So the best I can do is say all the turbine setups I have seen have the full beta prop systems.

Rino,
A friend of mine from upstate new york flies a Murphy Moose with the M14 on Aerocet amphibs and it has a reversing (MT?) prop on it. He loves the combination and has fun stopping the airplane and backing up. For sure not a necessary feature for a floatplane, but it sure comes in handy in close docking situations.
Here's a pic of Don's plane at my house this summer (he plans on painting it when he isn't so busy flying it and having fun...)
