this discussion has been for ever....The fact is that I and many others, some
of whom I have know personally, have used AUTO GAS''

In my case when I had my Cherokee 140 150 H>P> Lycoming, I used
auto fuel for over 7 years, when I sold it.

l never had a single problem with it, nor in summer or winter...
I was in Baltimore at the time,...I used Amoco,,, at that time...
So now I have my RV6a, same engine, and I can assure you I will use
auto fuel, once I complete my 40 hours...You see in Oskosh the famous
Cesna 150....uses only auto fuel....

So for those who never had used it, they do not have the facts..
If some one have a question, you can contact me off the list.

Bert

rv6a PS.I understand you cannot use auto fuel on engines that are not
150 H.P. ....

Bert,
You might want to check out the auto gas you intend to purchase for the 6A.
Because of state to state differences in regulations and changing seasons it
may not be the same as you once purchased in Baltimore. I burned Amoco
premium in my Cessna 170 eight years ago in the Chicago area but that gas is
not available to me in Charlotte (and maybe no longer available in Chicago
either). At that time Amoco premium did not have any ethanol in it.

My RV6, O-360 180 HP, now has over 700 hours on it. I have burned premium auto fuel approximately 2/3 of those hours. I put only 100LL in right tank. Take off is on right tank only. Inbound for landing at 5 miles the fuel selector is turned to right tank. On takeoff on hot engine in hot OAT I sometimes experience pneumatic lock caused by fuel boiling in the carb (engine runs rough and smokes black). This can happen on 100LL, but is more likely on auto fuel. I use 6 gal cans for fueling with auto fuel. I ground to airframe, can and ground. I used metal cans until I had fuel contamination from the zinc coating on the can. Now I use plastic cans with ground wire in the "can" and nozzle. I would not use auto fuel with ethanol. Premium fuel does not contain ethanol as far as I can determine. It should be marked on the pump if it has ethanol.

There are risks associated with using auto fuel. If you understand the risks you can make an intelligent choice as to whether it is for you.
