I am needing a set of King Fox Rims.to fit my new tires from Dave 

Fisher.does any one have a set that I could buy?or know where I could

Steve,

  Matco makes rims complete with brakes for the 8" King fox tires  The cost is $600.00 contact Matco directly at www.matcomfg.com

  The model number is MHE8B.  It uses and external caliper brake that is rated at 2200 in-lb at 450 psi.  It uses 1.25 inch tapered roller bearings and each wheel is rated at 750 lb static load with a 3 G overload ultimate load.

Thank You Kevin 4 the info on rims..all so I have a KF2,, how wide is 

the King Fox tires.,if they are on the plane..how wide are they??I am 

building a trailer and I need to know befor I start to build it.I need 

to know if it will fit my trailer.I need to know from out side of tire 

to the orther out side of the orther tire.how wide does the KF sit on

Steve-

Make sure that when you get those figures you're looking for that you  

allow for the weight of the engine when you build your trailer, and  

also the width of a Grove gear, if you should ever go that way. When  

I built my trailer, it was while waiting for the engine to arrive,  

and (stupid me) didn't allow for enough width when I designed the  

wheel ramps and pockets. The finished plane fits my trailer, but JUST  

fits it.

Also, when I built mine, I allowed for more room inwardly, so I could  

use it for smaller planes, and thought I made it wide enough for  

slightly larger tread width, but not enough.

I measured mine for you 

look like about 70" wide

if you subtract  9" each tire  then inside width would be close to 52 "

If I were going to build a trailer to carry my plane, I have one now, I

would make sure the trailer was at least a foot wider than the gear.  This

makes loading the trailer a lot easier ( 6" clearance per side)



Just an idea.



My trailer is a double Ski-Doo trailer which I extended the tow arm by about

five feet using an insert.  The insert carries a channel to allow the tail

wheel to track in while loading and unloading.  It also has a small hand

winch to help haul the mains up on the platform.



Two good side effects of the extension are the trailer tracks a lot better

on the highway and backing up is a lot easier.  This trailer is rated for

something in the order of 2500Lb so I can actually carry planes a bit larger

than my own.

thanks Dave this will help me out on the trailer.now I need to clip back 

of frame and weld on to outer frame beams to get it a little wider on 

each side.and then drop the deck where tire will fit.it still will be 

close but I think it will work out fine..the tire look great and all so 

the DVD that you sent me.realy cool..I hope and wish that I could B as 

good as you are at flying my KF  too.great video..and thanks again for

Hi Noel.thanks for the info on trailer.I have a boat trailer that I plan 

on hauling my plane on backwards.it is a 3500 load I am going to extend 

it by app 3ft. ,, drop where the KF2 will sit. and now I have to widen 

the outer frame rails to app 75" so the KF will have room.all so it too 

will have a hand winch.and incline channel to bring tail up level on 

front of trailer.so less stress on wings and tail.when going down the 

road.all so will take some leafs out of axle to make soffer ride for 

KF.trailer will all so have a tool box.off of a Pick up .what do U think

Hi Lynn.thanks 4 the imput on trailer.I have a boat trailer that I am 

going to,or tying to convert to my use.if I would go to your grove 

landing gear and the King fox tires what would I need  in width ? the 

trailer now is in side of trailer frame rails.is app 70" and I could 

easy change it to app 73" by cuting frame rails off and welding to the 

outside of rails all..so I only have app 3" extra..but may i could go to 

welding shop and some how have some major changes done  to make more 

room..So Lynn what would the width be that I would need???I plan on 

extending trailer app 3' of HD square tubeing.for extra room and to help 

balance KF on trailer.Lynn could you help me on the figures???that I

The idea  of removing springs sounds Ok to me  as long as you leave about 1500lb capacity. You will want some margin of safety  between the weight of your plane and the capacity of the trailer.



I found  it is much easier to open the wings without installing the turtle deck to load  and unload the plane.  This made handling the tail much easier.  I  also have a stand that fits exactly under the nut and bolt for the tail wheel  spring.  The stand is to keep the plane level when towing.  The reason  to put the stand under the  tail wheel spring mount is to take pressure off  the spring itself.



In the following picture I only have the plane on the  trailer to take the picture and at that time I hadn't worked out how to guy the  tail wheel three ways so it cannot move while travelling.



Notice how the  trailer ramps reverse to block the main gear in place.  It cannot move  left, right forward or back.  I expect if I could roll the trailer upside  down the plane would not separate from the trailer.  Note the straps do not  attach to the main gear but only to the loading ramps.  In the position the  plane is in it would be next to mission impossible to lift the tail up onto the  support.  with the wings open and the main gear trapped it is actually  quite easy to place the support under the tail heed spring attach  nut.  

 The three way guying I mentioned is 1 the main  cable from the winch to the tail wheel.  this cable will have to be  loosened to lift the tail then tightened. 2 and three guys are ratchet straps  which attach to the same part of the spring and extend to the rear corners of  the platform.  I was considering bolting a couple of boxes on the platform  to put gasoline in.  I don't recommend towing with gas in the  wings.  Be sure to put some kind of a protection between the vertical stab  and the ailerons to protect the stab from abrasion.  Also be sure to tie  the ailerons together behind the rudder.  Don't trust the small supports at  the base of the vertical stab to hold the wings in!  If they open while  towing it will put a dent in your day.

I'll measure what my trailer is now, and also the width of my plane  

as it sits, ready to fly, and get back to you.

I also used a light boat trailer for a base, and added a 3" channel  

for the tailwheel to ride upon, and the original boat winch for  

pulling the plane into place. I made the main wheel ramps hinge, and  

they became part of the main wheel "pockets."

I'll send you pictures directly.

I didn't realize the pics would be so small, but I think there is a way to expand them.  I meant to mention about how the tailwheel is held in place.  There are two hinges welded on on each side of the channel/ramp with staps welded to them.  When you flip them up, you can run a bolt through the straps and one of the cross tubes in the fusaloge.  This supports the tail so it is not bounceing on the tailwheel spring and ofcourse holds the tail to the trailer.  I'm not sure if the Kitfoxes have them, but Avid had two crosstubes in the tailend of the fusaloge that you could hook a hitch to and tow the plane on its own wheels. tubes.and I will use your idea on my trailer allso.I thought about this 

too but did not know how to do it..And now I do.this will help me out
