The oil pressure indication on my new (less than 50 hours) 912S has
begun to fall and has become quite erratic. It seems normal on start
(60-70 psi), drops as it warms up to well below normal (25-35 psi) in
flight, but will move back toward normal after landing. I'm quite
certain the problem is not with the oil pressure itself, but with the
indicator system. I've checked the wiring and it appears to be fine.
I don't know whether I could locate a direct reading gauge that would
fit into the oil pressure sensor fitting hole, so it looks like I'm
faced with replacing components.
Have any 912 users had oil pressure sender failures? I'm inclined to
just install a new gauge and see if that cures the problem.
I'd appreciate thoughts and suggestions as to causes and cures.
Thanks,
Lyle Persels

90% of instrument problems stem through poor grounds. Check the grounding
of your temp gauge. I doubt you will find any problem there.
The fact that the temperature warms up on landing when the airflow through
the oil cooler drops makes me think there is something in your oil
circulation system that is not right. If you had a Lyc or Conti I'd tell
you to check your vernatherm (thermostat for oil).
This can also be caused by the onset of cooler weather. Try covering part
of your oil cooler with cardboard held in place by the handy man's secret
weapon ( duct tape ) Only kidding about the duct tape not the part about
covering part of the oil cooler.

What Noel says..., or...
If you have a bit of debris in the oil pressure regulator it will
cease to control pressure and actual pressure will be a result of oil
viscosity....hot oil, low pressure, cold oil, higher pressure.
Oil pressure is controlled by a small check ball and spring combo. If
something is not allowing the ball to seat properly regulated pressure
will not be allowed to build up and open the spring\ball
It's simple to remove and inspect, just go slow when removing and
don't loose the ball, which will be sitting on the top of the spring
as you lower the assembly.
At the bottom of the page on this link you will find the components
mentioned, #2 thru #5

"If something is not allowing the ball to seat properly regulated pressure

Correction.... what I should have said is that the oil is bypassing
the regulation system.
My bad.
