The engine in our Mooney is a TSI0-360MB which was rebuilt about 200 hours ago. Oil pressure was fine at first but it has gradually dropped over time. Running Phillips XC20-50 multigrade oil we are seeing only 10psig when hot at 2500rpm.
We tried cleaning and resetting the pressure relief valve which made no difference. The strange thing is when we start from cold the oil pressure comes up very quickly to just under 100psig and then as the engine warms up it starts dropping. We have had to switch to a thicker oil as the turbo wastegate controller requires 30psig to operate. So using Phillips 25-60 multigrade oil we see a hot operating pressure of 40 psig.
Does anyone have suggestions as to the cause. Could the pressure relief valve spring weaken when hot and allow oil to bypass? If the turbo wastegate controller is using an excessive oil flow would this affect it?
I’m at my wits end what to check next so any help would be most appreciated.
Thanks
Brian
