You would probably need 40 lbs of lead in the tail and beef up the firewall tubing and mount. I wouldn't do it but I know that people have. If you are looking for something like a Kitfox for a O-320 or O-360, look at the Avid Magnum...they are built for those engines.

There has been much discussion on engines and weight on the list and it seems the general consensus is that engines heavier than the O-200 and IO-240 are not good matches for the Fox. Most think that even these engines are on the heavy side but do seem to be fairly popular.

No.

Backwards engineering, the design strongly looks to have been optimized for a 200 pound engine or less and I've heard similar from John. The tubes are small diameter and the mount pick-ups look not to have been designed for such loads in a heavy landing. Plan to mount the battery on the tailpost, add 20 pounds of copper starter cable, plus some lead. The useful load would probably be down to you and an hour of gas. The fuel flow would also cut you to a very short endurance. A 150+ hp engine could seriously exceed redline in cruise. Because of always being at or over gross, it'd take longer to get off the ground and slow to accelerate out of the high-drag (nose-high) attitude.

I recently saw a Zenair 601HD with an empty weight of over 900 pounds. Despite the big Subaru engine, the plane was quite slow, because the wing had to be kept at such a high angle of attack for the heavy load.

Keep these planes light and they'll both cost less and run better.
