My wife and I would like to polish the skins on our Rudder Kit (while waiting for the stock to go up enough to order the Tail Kit.) I've worked out all of the small scratches. All of the rivets are tight. My question is: what is the procedure for bringing the skins to a brilliant surface w/o damaging the poprivets? My son offered me the use of his automobile polisher (has about a 8-10 inch buffing pad on it.)
Also, are there any William Wynne Corvair conversion builders out there?
Thanks to those of you who offered your knowledge on polishing out the mild scratch marks. Worked out great and I really appreciate your patience with this newbie.

Hi John,
There is an outstanding report on how to do it in the Kitplanes magazine, November 2007 issue called "dare to be bare".
If the there is a minor scratch, and of course is only on the surface, not doing a "V" it would probably disappear.
Take care,

John,
You need to be on the Corvair List at corvaircraft.com.

I've recently made the same decision to polish and was inspired by the article in Kitplanes and the excellent info on the Nuvite site.
I ordered the recommended polish from Nuvite along with their wool pads. I also found the variable speed angle grinder/polisher like Nuvite recommends at Northern Tool for $59.
I've only done the first grade of polish and have to tell you that it's pretty amazing. It's a mirror finish with still some small scratches as I'll wait until later to do the final finish. I don't have pictures up on my site, but if you want to see a good looking polished XL check out Scott Laughlin's at www.cooknwithgas.com.
Warning: polishing is dirty and boring....but the results are great.
