The plans say the HD rudder should travel 22 to 28 degrees. I've just got 22 without lots of filing. Does anyone have real world experience on what is enough?

Phil,
I had to remove and open the elevator by 1/2-inch each side and
construct a new filler plate because version 3, at the time didn't
provide enough clearance
for the rudder to swing full either way. Suggest looking carefully at
how this affects your steering if you're tri-gear too. It's easy to
open and widen, so I'd
do that before settling for less than adequate travel.

March 21* Placement of the stabilizer becomes a problem that requires
modifications to both the elevator and rudder. The elevator was made to
version 3 of the drawings. The 80mm width at the narrow portion of the
elevators v-opening in front of the rudder is 100mm width in version 4,
and for good reason. There isn't enough clearance for the rudder to move
freely at 80mm. I spent half the day widening and making a single
v-closing panel into a 2-piece panel. The rudder of course required
trimming of the lower edge of the nose skin to get clearance with the
elevator horn and limits of up-travel for the elevator. I also had to
trim the bottom edge of the v-opening skin to clear the rudder at mid
upper elevator travel to preclude any contact that might cause
interference during travel. It's all very close and the rear attach tabs
had to be trimmed to allow the elevator down to travel limits. The best
result was moving the elevator ¼" further forward to within 1/4" of the
rearmost top bulkhead to improve elevator-rudder clearances.
