I think I am going to name my airplane the apogee, seems like a name that may help me to get it to fly. anyway here are some pictures. I had some others, however,,,,, I decided to upgrade my Mac to the latest OS called Leopard and it obliterated the iPhoto program. I can't find the pix from yesterday. They are in the camera so not lost. I'll try uploading them from the HP, maybe tomorrow.
these are attachments so they should not slow anyone down.

On the last picture ....I was looking at the "Nose cone"
Is it mounted at "THAT" angle ??????

Hi Mike
I have gotten more than one question about it... laughing. The cone is held in place by friction alone. Right under the main gear in the pix there is the bathroom scales. I was weighing the frame and the motor for W&B in different positions. I was sliding it back and forth to get a rough read on the weights. The nose cone is not fastened at all, and in fact its now back occupying its dust outlined space in the hanger.
But you people are giving me an idea for a tilting nose under control as a form of a canard!!!!!! laughing. that dude is bottom flat enough to in fact provide lots of control authority, some winglets and some antennas on the sides will make it look like a cat fish swimming in water.
But that is on the back burner as well, till I finish it.

See, Ron, it wasn't just me that thought it looked a little odd. Mike, I already asked Ron about this, and he said it was just "hung" on, not mounted.

Ron .....it looks like you have changed the engine thrust line quite a
bit from the standard set-up . Do you think that will be a problem ?

I kept true to the original mount angle. The rear is lifted to about the same hight angle as the original single tube mount. The thrust line profile angle is the same. The motor may sit lower but that's because the mount cradles the motor and its not sitting as high as the factory mount. Which is good, taking the thrust line lower should reduce the pitch down force when applying power. But !!!! when fully installed it may sit identical to factory hight since the shock absorbers are about an inch thick and then the brackets on top of that are another .5 inches. We shall see.

I'm always amazed at how flimsy the tubing supporting an engine "looks" compared to the weight of the engine.
I somehow feel safer that the UltraStar engine would pass under my butt in the event of a crash instead of passing over my head as the other Kolbs.
Either way though its going to hurt a lot.
Looks good, when do you plan to be taking to the air?

I wish I knew. I have to work, and that takes me on the road / air a lot. When I am home and have time, and I don't need to work on the Beech Sierra I work on the Kolb.

Ray:
The Ultrastar has the weakest engine attachments of the other Kolb
models, except the Kolb Flyer.
If one crashes a Kolb hard enough for the engine to break loose, most
likely you will not feel a thing when the engine hits you.
