Hey Gang,
I just put up a short video of a friends Super lightweight Rotax 2 stroke
powered Avid Flyer on floats doing a takeoff competition. Shows just what a
light airplane can do. I dubbed it from another friends ancient and crude
VHS video, but I thought you guys might enjoy it just the same. Here's the

Gary,
Believe it or not, his original empty weight on that airplane was 387 pounds. Oh yeah, ON FLOATS!!!!
It gradually creeped up to around 400 lbs due to mods he added later when he went from the 532 to the 583. He now has a 670 Rotax (115 hp!) he's playing around with, and it hs crept up again, now a tad over 425 lbs (On floats as well). But he did add an electric starter and a really cool prop clutch. Early Avids were just super lightweight, super performing STOL planes.
