I too had to remove material for the tube to fit  into the mount, but I removed material from the inside of the mount instead of  the tube. It didn't take much, but a small sanding drum on the Dremmel tool did  the job. I figured the mount is fairly thick steel, and the tube is expensive,  and not steel, so logic told me to grind the mount a little, and then paint  on a little zinc chromate.
