To all who responded so quickly- thank you. First, where is Goodspeed? Is that the Meriden airport? I believe they have a local chapter of the EAA. Next, Windsor Locks is located in north centrac Ct., between Hartford and Springfield. I know some ultralights operate from some of the small local fields, but being a newcomer to ultralights, I am not certain of the legalities.
We are buying the Firefly from Paul Coleman in Mattituck, Long Island, New York. We almost took delivery when it was damaged in a storm. He is repairing, as he was trained as an A&P mechanic. Tie down ropes broke. As a former mechanic, I fully understand that these things happen. We intend to spend the first few months checking it out thoroughly, and getting some UL flight training. My training was in an Ercoupe, hers was a Cessna 150 and some small taildragger. She liked the taildragger better. We own land up in northern Vt. and I think we have enough room in a good spot to put a field there. We want to train for STOL flight, and commute from here to there. If all goes well, we will pick up a second one. I am 58, and she is 59, so we can't wait another 10 years to have some fun.

No, Meriden is Meriden-Markham. Goodspeed is in East Haddam, right on the
Connecticut River, 36 miles SSE from Bradley.
The "legalities" are simple if your Firefly is a "true" ultralight
(possible but difficult to keep a Firefly under 254 lbs):
FAR Part 103:

If the plane is overweight, it has to be registered as E-LSA and time is
running out to do that (and you need at least a Sport Pilot license to fly
it).
As for where you can fly, it depends on the policy of the specific airport;
some welcome ultralights and others do not. You won't be flying an
ultralight out of Bradley, that's for sure! I know nothing about those two
private fields inside Bradley's Class D airspace.

When Columbus came to America, there were no taxes, no debts, and no
pollution. The women did all the work while the men hunted or fished all
day. Ever since then, a bunch of idiotic do-gooders have been trying to
"improve" the place.
