I'm still having fun!
I put 330 hours on the Kolbra in 2007 and logged 440 landings.

Checked your route of flight. Map indicates you will be flying over Indian
Territory. Be careful out there. Sure you don't need a good wingman?

John,
Thanks so much for copying us on the Butterfield flight info. Looks like a lot of fun. The route goes right over my home airport (Benson, AZ). The airport managers are great people and I'm thinking we could host a refreshments/fuel stop there. There are ruins of a Butterfield station about 25 miles from the airport.

Cool trip.
Just some Trivia along that routes vicinity.
West of Fort Worth Texas in Mineral Wells, my Dad spent 3 years as a German Prisoner of War during WW2.
He was captured in Tunisia in a Radio Relay station built into the cliffs by the shore of the Mediterranean by the advancing American forces as they were chasing Rommel and his rat pack.
He and his squad where playing cards in a cave in the cliff when they heard the clicks of guns being cocked behind them......guess the Americans did not bother to knock....
The field to the right of the High School is were the compound used to be.
Visited the site in 1980 and all that was left is some rubble where the guard towers used to be and a small cemetery where some German Prisoners were buried.
Some died as a result of accidents since they actually had to work clearing fields, felling trees etc.....not like inmates now who who get to sit on their butts and watch TV.

Sure it wasn't a few miles east of Mineral Wells on Fort Wolters, Texas?
More trivia.
Sep 1968, I solo'd a Hughes TH-55 helicopter south of Fort Wolters at a
stage field I can no longer remember the name. My buddy, John W, was a
month behind me in Primary Helicopter Training at Fort Wolters. If we make
it until next Fall, it will be a quick 40 years ago. Times a flyin'.

Nope that field was the site alright.
Apparently some of the Prisoners got to work at Fort Wolthers as well doing Laundry and cleanup work....but it was offsite from the Prison Camp.
