Oshkosh 2008 AirVenture
RedStar Pilots Association Event
Fiftieth Anniversary of the CJ-6A

Troops!
Below is the present schedule for Oshkosh AirVenture 2008. As you already know this year RedStar Pilots Association is celebrating the Fiftieth Anniversary of the CJ-6A. Not only is that number of years significant to the CJ-6 it is the only airplane unchanged from the prototype to pass that mark and that is still in production. It and the Yak are the only warbirds that have that distention.
But on to the important stuff - having fun at this RPA party. The main event is on Wednesday July 30. On this day we will attempt to put 50 CJ-6 aircraft over OSH during the WarBird part of the show. You Yak guys? You will be up there with them. This is an RPA party celebrating the CJ-6’s birthday. So if you can’t make the West Bend practice session, be at OSH not later than July 29, Tuesday afternoon. Remember there is an airshow at OSH between 1300 & 1700 that day so the field will be closed and they close the airport at 1900L.
For very special reasons, you want to plan to stay for the banquet Friday evening August 1st.
Paper Work.
Guys its really important to get this stuff right. The Feds and legal beagles at EAA are having their way. EAA has a very aggressive fellow who is very serious about the insurance stuff also I expect that the Feds will do more spot checking due to last years accident. The big thing the last 2 years is having copies of your insurance papers.  Just the page that shows your policy number and coverage. So before you leave home, go to a copy machine and make copies of all your ratings, medical, driver license, the last annual inspection page of the aircraft log, and your insurance. And make sure the required certificates are in your airplane and your license is in your pocket.. And don’t forget the parachute. You can’t even use a parachute as a seat cushion if its out of date. “If it’s out of date, its out of the plane“.
FAST Check Ride at West Bend?
Remember - the pre Oshkosh practice is NOT a training clinic. Its is a mass formation warm-up for the experienced guys and practice for FNGs.  Perspective wingmen/leads must be well prepared and already have a signed recommendation form from a FAST check pilot or FAST rated Lead. Do not expect the check ride to be any easier at West Bend than any where else.  Note: There will be no check rides after noon on Saturday, July 26. The rest of that day and Sunday will be getting spent getting FNGs up to speed in mass formations.
Where to stay?
There are a number of places and you can get a list from EAA, BUT we’d like to suggest the University of Wisconsin dorms. First they are very inexpensive (2 Beds per room (at) $50.00/ night) and very convenient to many of our planed activities. Second, transportation is a big bonus because there is direct bus services from the dorms to EAA’s main gate at $5.00 round trip. However! We are planning to have our own buses take us to & from the dorms directly to our aircraft saving us a :20 minute walk. Third, there are a number of nice restaurants with-in very short walks of the dorms. Forth, we have arranged with UW to have all our rooms together on the same floor and in the same building. Many EAAers like “doing the dorms”. The room are not unlike a military billet. Two beds, 2 chairs, 2 decks, 2 dressers, a refrigerator, a microwave, and (maybe)internet service. You get 2 sheets, 1 blank, 1 pillow case, and 1 towel & wash cloth. There is no air conditioning (sorry those rooms sold-out 2 hours after they opened). You may be want to buy a cheap fan or do like most of us and sleep with the door and window open! Oh yes, the johns and showers are down the hall.
Want to stay at the dorm? A one night’s deposit of $50.00 is due on or before March 15th. If you make a reservation and not pay the deposit by than, you lose your reservations. If you need to cancel out, you’ll get a refund if you do so BEFORE June 15.  After that date, you lose your deposit. By the way, if you have already signed up for the dorms rooms on the RPA web site, you will still need to contact UW for the reservations. All we’ve done is let them know how many rooms they can expect plus RPA needs to provide them with a final roster by July 15th.
Here is the contact stuff for reservations.
Phone UW: (920)-424-3226 or (920)-424-0388 and even uwoeaa(at)mio.uwosh.edu (uwoeaa(at)mio.uwosh.edu)
They will accept all credit cards except Discover Card.
Make sure you tell them you’re with the RPA.

We are looking for Sponsors.
Know of any folks out there with some money to spend? Particularly business folk who are looking for exposure to a lot of people. Put them in contact with me Jim Goolsby, Hal Morley or David McGirt.  We can give them exposure not only to our membership, though our web site, and magazine, but also via aircraft stickers and banners on our very large tent at OSH where literally thousand of people will see their name as our sponsors. They can get a tax deduction because we are a 501-3C organization. If they wish to sponsor and pay for a specific event in our schedule (save the rest of us money), that can be done and we’ll give them a minute or two to say a few words. The more sponsors we get the cheaper it will be you and I.
Discounts.
We are working to get fuel discounts at OSH. This may mean that we will only be using one of the two FBOs exclusively for our fueling. That is the plan but that plan just may not come to fruition. EAA does pay us for fuel but only for the time we are air borne during the show. All other “extra flying” is out of our pocket. If this works out, it will be a first so stay tuned for that.
So get with it!
So start getting you plans together. So far, some 44 CJ-6 aircraft have already registered. 10 Yaks are on board (we need more guys!) Some15 folks have signed up for the dorms. Your committee is working on details that will lead us to having a ball and good time at what is RPA’s first big birthday party. That Fiftieth Year only comes by once. Believe me, you will be very sorry if you let this go by. So lads get that FAST rating if you haven’t got it yet and mark off that calendar. And even if you don’t get that formation card, come anyway!
We will be coming up with more details. Like event cost, freebies and other activities, so stay tuned.
