Bob,
The spin qualities are really benign. I intentionally put my 601 into a spin , which is hard to do, and in one turn it came out itself. VERY easy plane to fly. As for the thicker wing, do what you need to do to feel comfortable flying the plane you have built your self, if wieght is not imprtant to you. Flutter will not be cured by thicker metal.
