Yesterday, January 5, 2008, N5SL made it's first flight around the pattern. 4-years, 11-months and 5-days since I started work on the airplane.
Does anybody know of a Plans-built 601XL that has flown in the U.S.? I'd like to claim to be the first so if anybody knows of another please let me know.
Here is a picture of the magic moment:

I have a shaky video but need to get it off the camera before posting. More to come!

Congratulation Scott!
Not sure if your 601XL is the first scratch built to fly, at least is the only one I know. But for sure, yours is the first scratch built, Corvair powered and BRS fitted that takes to the skies. You can surely claim that one. I've been following your project from your web site since you where buiding your wings.

Scott,
What a great accomplishment! Your fellow scratch builders can appreciate the tremendous amount of work this represents...and we all owe you a big "thanks" for such a great website. Congratulations.

Thanks guys. It was an incredible moment. My 13-year-old daughter filmed the video from a chase car, then she edited the video with music and some pictures. Enjoy:

Well, now you're legal for 90 days and can enter some crosswind
