Tail Wheel assembly

Kitfoxers, In my mod 3 rebuild I notice that the  tail wheel assembly seems very heavy. I know there are some spring steel  assemblies, but can't believe they are much lighter. Has anybody fabricated a  square steel tube or composite spring tailassembly that saves any weight? And,  which ready made tail wheel assembly is the best? Does anyone run just  a spring steel skid?

Tailwheel does seem heavy but that all part of your W  & B .  



Works well the way it is and I now havea 3 leaf spring on  the tail and working well so far.

Dave, Thanks for reply. It definitely will change weight and balance to reduce tail wheel weight significantly. But, I will happily move the battery to loose that much weight.   Pat Reilly

in reality  are we splitting hairs here? 

I always wondered about a  fairing for the tail gear. 



more gain that way ?  or by losing a few pounds ? 



Heck if i lost  50 lbs i would likely gain better aircraft performance    

or be able to carry 8 gallons more fuel
