I would strongly recommend removing the wings if you are going and significant distance. What I did was use a car hauler and put 4' high sides on it braced them across the top and lashed the wings to the sides carefully padded then with carpet and upholstery foam. I the towed the whole thing over 400 miles to my new place with no damage. To protect from weather I used a trap over the top. with some foam at the high point to avoid any rubbing of the trap.

The brace you are talking about is not special but was an option from Skystar is nothing more than a 4130 rod that goes from the front spar attach pin to a lug on the bottom of the fuge. You could make one pretty easy. Yes stresses are quit significant. Skystar had an accelerometer on the plane when they transported and the numbers were very high. Failure point reported as a result of towing on a trailer occurred at at the rear spar attach and the Fuge fwd of the tail wheel where buckling occurred.
The solution for the wing is above. The solution for the Fuge is something soft under the tail wheel to take up the shock loads. With the wings removed teh Fuge issue is moot.
LOL, Paul

PS, be sure to remove the wings. PW

[quote]Listers,
Thank you very much for your advice on transporting my airplane. Sounds like some of you have some good experience with this. I am going to have to give it some more thought. An enclosed car trailer would be the perfect slution but may be cost prohibitive. I will give it more thought. I have heard of a special brace that is required to support the front spar while transporting. Apparently there is a large amount of extra strees on the aft spar joint when the aircraft is subjected to road motion. Any ideas where I would locate a pair of these?

Thank so much for the advice. I'd hate to damage the aircraft due to my ignorance.

Cheers,

Rique[b]

Be aware that the pads might be too thick (at least on mine, it was)
for the vertical if the vertical is airfoiled. I got mine through
Skystar (the last order of mine before they went belly up) and the
pads were so thick that the stand-off braces had to be lengthened to
keep from squeezing the vertical too hard. My pads were about 3" thick.

I have trailered my fox for tens of thousands of miles and have periodically
made my own padded tail covers to prevent flaperons from rubbing against
rudder and verticle stabilizer by using 1. exercise mat material from K-Mart
at maybe $10 and 2. campers roll-up sleeping mat foam which is very similar
to exercise mat and even knee pad squares used for gardening held in place
by bungees. I think I actually used some colorful foam beach mat once.

Don't forget to remove as much fuel as practical from the wings to decrease forces on the wing support mechanism when trailering with wings folded.
Remember that the CG shifts aft with the wings folded putting a lot of stress forces on the tail wherever it is supported. Providing some support and cushioning ahead of the tail wheel spring might be important as mentioned by someone already.
