Hi Leonard, I saved this message that you sent last Fall, and I am now going
to order a crank. When you got this crank was it the same as the old one?
The aero cranks have the shaved journals on the connecting rods. Also was it
a new crank or rebuilt and how is it working for you? The reason I'm asking
is that it seems too good to be true.

When I talked to Tony at TMR, he said that he had bought something like 70 cranks from rotax and got a real good buy on them. They were sitting on his shelf and he wanted to move them out. The crank I got was a brand new mod 99. It only has break in time and the twice a month start up and run up to temp time on it as I have not finished my left wing yet.

If you want to gamble on cranks here is one bid is 10$
http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250208788035&ssPageName=ADME:B:SS:CA:1123
I just sold a crank for a 582 to a Polaris dealer that had gone through 3 cranks in the last few years. I ran into him at a flyin and he had never had a 582 crank last more than 70 hours. He was shocked to learn that mine always go past 300 hours as well as the one I flew in on.
I asked him the usual , what kind of oil etc etc. then he told me he been getting rebuilt cranks from somewhere.
You get what you pay for is the moral of the story. save 500 $ on a crank and wipe out a landing gear or your entire plane you just spent 1200 hours building ... PRICELESS> ?
Same goes for pistons , some will argue snowmobile pistons are better or the same. not so.

Nice... what you are saying is, if a guy gets a good deal it must be fake huh... nice. glad you are a dealer and will push your agenda to the end. I notice just about every one of your posts ends with you trying to sell someone something.
now for the best part of the entire irony. You tell everyone how you should go by the manufactures recommendation on damn near everything, then post with pride how you have never bothered to pull you engine apart and are way over the recommended overhaul interval etc. thats cool,
Being able to rebuild you engine at dealer price.... under a grand
taking out the gear cause you were too hard headed to follow manufacture specs... PRICELESS.
Kinda puts things in perspective now doesn't it.
And that was WAYYY after I counted to 10, forwards and backwards several times

No, I could not careless if you buy a crank or not but folks do buy rebuilds and have had limited success in our applications. Sure some might work but alot don't. Hard fact to understand I guess. ?
Point is I give real time real life experiences like the previous example, I have seen enough rebuilt cranks fail that if you gave them to me for free I would not use them.
some say penny wise pound foolish .. live and learn as others have done unfortunately.

Relax guys. Leonard, I'm going to call TMR and talk to them about their
cranks. I may buy one or I may not. I'm an experienced mechanic but I am
unfamiliar with this engine and should I choose to get it zero timed by a
Rotax repair shop, it is unlikely he will be willing to use a crank from
somewhere else. Something to consider.
I can also buy a new long block engine, mod 99 with no accessories for a
little more than a zero time rebuild, another choice to consider.
I never intended for this to become an issue here the email I sent was
intended to go directly to Leonard and I copied the list in error.

Certified ROTAX Service Center? A&P? What more would one want?
I'd say the "odds" are in the buyers favor.
