I am about finished with my fuselage on my 601 XL, and getting ready to start installing the landing gear.  I copied the Gear/Brake Lines section 6-G down from Zenith's builders web site.  But I couldn't find a section of the instruction manual for installation of the front landing gear.  Is there one?  Or do you just build it from the plans?  Or is it complete enough from the factory to just put it in?  I have the factory complete kit.

I didn’t find anything in the photo assembly guide on the front gear and just followed the plans. Lance Gingell suggests following the CH801 guide on this (although it lacks the reinforcing “U”):

Hi Don,



I am sorry it is so late for a first response to your message on nose 

gear.  I just got the email dated 1/22 and today is 1/25.   There 

seems to be some backup (at least for me) in the email delivery system.



I don't recall finding any instructions for doing the nose gear.  I 

found the drawings pretty straight forward, but there are a few areas 

of special challenge.



I painted the main nose gear column before installation and found the 

bottom plastic bearing to be tighter than I thought was good.  I used 

a Dremel tool with sanding drum to take a bit off the inside of the bearing.



I posted a solution to the challenge of stretching the bungee cord 

into position with pictures a while back.  The tool I invented was a 

piece of PVC pipe with one end cut an a angle.  This makes a nice 

tool for slipping the bungee in place.  If you need a new picture, 

just send me an email.



The biggest challenge is the treatment of the slots where the tie 

rods pass through the firewall.  My version of the drawings leaves 

huge holes in the firewall that don't even allow the steering to work 

properly.  There are several solutions already posted for this area, 

and I have my own (which I am not proud enough of to post since it is 

outrageously complicated to build).
