I have completed the install of the autopilot. No major headaches or
fabrication needed. However....I so apologize!!!! When we finished
everything it was a cold rainy day (our hanger is open on two sides).
After we cleaned up all the tools, etc. Kathy pulled out the camera, and
after that...dead battery warning! We did not take ANY pictures. Since I
had the help, we put the plane back together and flew it the next day.

We made a few control adjustments while in flight (changing the torque and
movement speeds of the servos). This is done at the control head and is
actually quite easy to do. We locked on altitude at 2,000' and it did not
change by more than 10' up or down. It also held us on course and making
directional changes are easy. We took it down to 800' because it was
really turbulent at that altitude. Altitude +/- 20 and it held the course
heading. We had to increase the lateral adjustment (how fast the servo
responds and moves). After that it did a fantastic job of keeping the
wings level even though it was a rough ride. At present...I have no
complaints about the ADI Pilot II. I'm just glad it is installed...and
I'm thrilled.

The main servo is mounted on the left side of the fuselage behind the
seat, attached with Adell clamps to the two V shaped tubes. The elevator
servo is also behind the seat just above the push/pull tubs. It is also
mounted to the structural tubes in that location. The pushrod is attached
the elevator pushrod under the seat.

When we pull the plane down for it's next 100 hour inspection I will take
lots of pictures with printed detail and post them. I really feel bad
that i was unable to take the pictures...but I had help and didn't want to
delay the test flight.

If you have any specific questions, please ask!

Travis Very Happy

Subject: Console covering

When I built my S5 (1st flight May 2000) I chose to cover the console
top side with Cordura fabric to match the seats. My biggest reason for
using fabric was to cover up all of the rivets that would have been
visible had I painted it. I used spray on 3M adhesive and it held up
for about three years and since then it has gradually worked loose and
looked unsightly so I removed it. Now I need to recover with something.

What have some of you used to cover your console that has lasted? I'm
just looking for alternatives to what I've already tried and didn't work
very well. Vinyl contact paper was suggested, but I don't know where to
find something suitable and of course, color would be a limiting factor.
Any suggestions out there?

Can you give me a source for more information on the Jelati throttle arm. the
posted pictures appear to offer a possible to a solution faced with a larger Bing
carb on a Rotek radial engine.

Deke,
Have you considered screw down snaps like for boat covers, etc. A little more
weight but would probably need half doz. or less.

Deke,

I used nagahide on my fox panel top. I had a bead sown in along the front
edge of the top and glued in place. I still looks great after 10 year and
that includes 4 years in the summer sun at high altitude.

Found an interesting web that describes how to set up the Harbor Freight's current
HVLP spray gun # 43430. Harbor Freight has them on sale for $40.00 in the
store price but go to their WEB site and buy it for $20.00. Even if you don't
like it, for 20 bucks you can always paint the patio furniture with it. No, I
have not tried it but I ordered one.

You might be referring to the arm that Dave Jalanti engineered for
his Jabiru installation in his Kitfox. If so, I got mine from Pete at
USJabiru ( www.usjabiru.com or email them at
info(at)usjabiru.com ) in Tennessee, a Jabiru dealer. This arm extends
the length of the VERY short Bing throttle arm, and thus allows for a
more precise control of the throttle.

Hi there,

First, thank you for hosting the list. I had no idea how active it was and have learned a lot reading this last week. Unfortunately this is my company email and its just too many messages, so would you mind taking me off the distribution please? I don’t want to cancel my account, just cant receive so many emails here- and by the way, I forgot my password and I cant get anywhere trying that route to log off the emails-
