In early summer when my blue-head 582 reaches 300 hours I'm planning to replace it with a 912S (the 582, gear box, prop, motor mount, etc will all be for sale at a very reasonable price then). I'm planning to replace the firewall at the same time. I don't want to replace the cowl unless I have to. I'm hoping that some of you have made the same engine change and can give me some pointers on things to do/not do and general information on the best way to proceed.

Bill and listers,
I made the change. The cowl had to go unfortunately.
So did my windshield and pretty much everything firwall forward. It was well worth it all though.

Bill, I have a Mod 3 912 motor mount and the firewall grommet door, if you are interested. I don't know if the mod 3 motor mount fits the mod 4 or whether the 912 & 912s motor mounts are the same.

Rex,
I'm hoping that since I'm starting with the IV-1200, which I think was designed for this (or the 912) engine, I won't have the same level of adjustment that you did with the III. I guess I'm going to find out. I do have another lexan windshield blank lying around so if need be I won't have to buy that. The cowling thing really does worry me though since I am seriously inept with Fiberglas.

Pat,
I'm pretty sure I'll have to get a mount specific to the IV but I'll definitely keep you in mind in case I don't.
Thanks.
