Well, after all my optimism about my carburetor rebuild, it appears I
have a problem or two. Perhaps I should have sent them off to Bing as
recommended! But now that I am in the middle of it, perhaps one of
you all has an idea. I ran the engine today, first time after
rebuilding the carbs, and got the idle mixture adjusted so it ran OK.
I'm not sure the enrichener worked very well. After I got everything
warmed up and running smooth at low to mid RPM, I taxied out for a
runup, and at about 4500 RPM (this is a 912UL) it just dies, then runs
again fine at lower RPM. At about 4000 to 4500 it sounds just weak,
not quite right, then it quits. Back at the hangar, there was gas in
the overflow bottle, first time ever.
Now, I think I know my mistake: The enrichener disk has a keyhole
shaped hole on one side, and 4 little dimples opposite it. I think I
put this together backwards, with the keyhole at the bottom. The
illustration in the Bing manual appears to have it near the top. What
do you all think??

Jack,
Go to build web site (URL in the signature block). You will see my
album on the Lockwood 9xx school. Toward the bottom of the first
page, there is a pic labeled "The inside of the starting carb." See
if that shows what you need.
Good building and great flying,

You could recheck your floats and float valve for correct seating. Overflow is a symptom of this.

Bob,
Thank you, these pictures are great, and I solved the problem. I
simply had the enrichener disk 180 degrees off. The engine ran fine
as soon as I turned it around, which was easy. Now, I have the plane
flying again, but I notice my max RPM is down about 200 or 300 RPM.
No change in prop pitch or anything else. According to all the charts
I am probably running a little rich at my altitude, so I am going to
re-jet the main, and maybe change the position of the jet needle. I
don't know why the rebuilt carb would be different if all the jets are
the same!
