Folks,
Florida has great weather and SunnFun is not a basic
clinic, so with support from Sam Sax and the Tamiami
crew, the RPA is going to field a central Florida
fly-in/FAST clinic.
LOCATION: Sebring Regional (KSEF). Under negotiations
now on fuel and hotel discounts and other services.
These folks want the RPA's regular (annual) presence
and are working with us well.
DATE: March 7-9
FOCUS: Fun flying - and great training for wing
candidates and Flight Lead upgrades...While wing
candidates will always be our focus, the association
now has a very high percentage of rated wingmen. In
speaking with the new pointy head (Darrell) at
Waycross, a fresh focus is now on Flight Lead
candidates through the new lead seminar and sortie
training as well. The event will "flex" based on
attendance and student load, from basic training to
mass formation practice. In a nut shell:
Friday afternoon arrival.
--Ground school seminar. The hope for future RPA
clinics is, based on wingmen candidates home studying
the new RPA formation manual, the massive ground
school power point will be somewhat reduced in
duration, saving more time for flying.
-- Fly as able too naut twlight
--Evening dinner and CRUD training if possible/desired
(suitable location is being determined)
Saturday, all day:
--Fly, fly, fly
--Dusk: Lead Pilot Seminar. This is NOT a boring slide
show, but a very interactive event for all wingmen and
leads. Its a new required item as per the FF&P. Pizza
or other good stuff with "liquid refreshments" will be
on hand.
--Evening: Dinner, long tales at the bar, possible
CRUD tournament.
Sunday
--Fly, Fly, Fly...until 1430 or as needed for RTB.
Check pilots are on hand. Based on numbers, Mass
Formation practice is an option, to include looking at
the Oshkosh "Five-Zero" plan
Based on students, this event needs backseat
instructors. It should be a great time as Sebring is
motivated to support the RPA. Thanks to Sam Sax and
Tamiami folks for kick starting this concept,
I realize this is only 5 weeks away, but if you are
within a few hours of Sebring, try to make it out and
support the standing up of a much needed Florida
central fly-in.
