This was an almost perfect exciting day.
First took off from our airpark under near perfect skies with John Ford in tow. We formated over to Flager. In route I tried my new auto pilot for the first time. John took up a respectful distance as I engaged the servo for the time.
After putting in a brief appearance with Bill Mills and John I bugged down to New Symerna Beach airport to test fly the B-24 fresh out of overhaul. Rob Collings and I had to abort the first takeoff at about 30kts, because #2 engine started popping at 40" and we started seeing fluid pouring from the engine. The fluid turned out to be water and the popping was cause by the wiring harness being wet too. The next attempt went much better, with just few minor write ups, that still need fixing. Pretence of another great season.
I than bugged back up to Flager for fuel and hoping to catch the guys still doing some formation there. Except for Mills and Boz all were gone. I shot the breeze for a little while and than Boz hooked on to my wing and we made an element takeoff. After giving Boz a little training maneuvering, we broke formation and I head home into a setting sun.
On arriving overhead at Eagle's Nest I found dead smooth air, under clear skies, and unlimited visibility. Just could not help myself. Cuban 8, a loop, and some hammer heads turns, my day was done with the sun.
Stepping out of my cockpit, my neighbor Doug Vada (neat guy, is the test pilot for Extra here in the US) walked up and handed me a beer! Man! just how perfect can my day get?!!!!!!
I must be doing sometime good, cause God is sure good to me! Pappy
