Hi All!
Having found my old water filter to be scrap, and now in possession of a very nice Stainless Steel Filter body plus dissicant material kit (thank you Doug!) I need some info on the best way to put the whole thing back together again.
Firstly, the small metal screens that separated the felt filters aren't in the best of shape, is it possible to use an alternative material, say a fine fiberglass mesh?
Next, is it wise to use teflon tape or something similar on the threads of the filter body? How about on the rest of the air system?
Thanks!

Keep Teflon tape off the system and out of the system.
If Doug does not have the fine mesh brass screens, Carl Hayes does.

The kit you got from Doug should have all the parts. I just helped a friend install new dessicant in his CJ and Doug's kit had end plates, all screens, felt, and dessicant.

Hi,
For thread sealer I use Permatex high temp thread sealer part no. 59214. It
works great and does not set up or lock the threads. Found at auto parts
stores.
I found stainless steel screen at ace hardware in the plumbing section.

Hey guys, just back from Belize and noted your post. In my filter repack kit ($17.50 ea) there is a full set of fresh felt filters, a full set of stainless steel screens, and all the desiccant needed to recharge your filter. There is no need to reinvent the wheel and cut your own filters or screens. I also now have the end plates (one on each end of the filter) in stainless steel. Previously these were made of alu. and were found to be corroding and causing problems down stream as they fell apart. Once replaced, your filter will be totally stainless steel with the exception of the springs which I will have very shortly. If you find that your alu end plates are corroded you might want to consider purchasing a set of stainless end plates $10.00 for the pair.
To assemble the filter:
Starting from the "Air in" end you have first a stainless steel end plate, then a stainless screen, then a felt filter pad, then a stainless steel screen. NEXT you add the desiccant, then a screen, then just alternate felt pad, stainless screen, felt pad, etc., until your out the other end. You will finish with a stainless steel screen, then use your second stainless end plate. Put the spring in place on EACH end and tighten up the end caps. NOTE the seal DOES NOT happen in the threads it happens as the 0 ring seals on the lip of the body so don't worry about sealing the threads. NEXT take your Teflon tape and with your best effort throw the crap as far away from your aircraft as you can!! Don't use it on your air system, if you do your just buying trouble somewhere down the road.
Hope all this helps, if you have questions feel free to give me a call (at) 509-826-4610.
Coming soon---Stainless steel replacement springs for all the air system.
