I wish I knew the name of the person I met at Air Venture 2006 who first suggested
that I pitch the H-stab down. (He was retired, had built 2 HDs, the first
neutral, the second 2 down and 15 miles per hour faster with the same engine/prop
combination, and was an amazing person.)

Sabrina,

The "15 miles per hour faster..." statement stretches credibility, at least in my understanding of your statement. His second build must have been much better in rig than the first build. If he had made the change in stab incidence in the first HD and seen a speed increase, then the test/change scenario might have some credence - but 15 MPH! Not possible from this change alone.

Did you question the person closely and could you share any other information. I too wish you knew the name. I've talked to a few at OSH who stretch their knowledge just a tad...

Sabrina,

You have built a beautiful aircraft! You should be proud of your
accomplishment and have given yourself an awesome beginning to your
aerospace career. We'll be looking for you in the future! One question,
though..... On your website http://sabrina.aero/ , there is a note in the
lower right corner that states that you were able to remove the
"amateur-built" warning. Could you please elaborate on this? Tell us the
story!

Good luck, young lady!

I can understand why you would want to remove that warning and from a quick look at the regs it is apparently legal to do so. But, If I were you I'd put it back. It's not a complete safeguard to liability, it may not even be a very could safeguard to liability but it is somewhat a safeguard.

And it's not like it takes away a bit from what you've done.

E-LSA aircraft are not amateur built. The MISO inspects rather than the FSDO. This option expired on 1/31/08.

Hi, Sabrina, et al.

I, too, felt the need to repitch the horiz. stab. on my 601 XL trigear last year.

Initial flight testing indicated a lack of up elevator authority during take-off and flair, and trim settings had to be set between neutral and almost full up from zero to full flap settings.

A pair of redesigned rear stab. attach brackets resulted in raising the trailing edge by 11 mm, which made significant improvements in all flight regimes.

And, yes, we bounced the modification off of Chris before we did it, and he concurred.
