Hi Folks,
I watched with interest the Rotax-owner.com video on carburetor
synchronization.
Anyone know where one can get the single dial (dual pointer) sync tool
shown on the video.
Lockwood only seem to sell the dual dial version.
Any other tools out there one can use?

Martin,
From what I see on the video, the dual needle manifold pressure gauge is an aircraft instrument as used on twin engine aircraft. That is a very good but expensive solution unless you can find a used instrument in a salvage yard.

If you are creative you could make a simple but effective one, using two
clear solid tubes of PVC
and a couple of light plastic balls with a restrictor on one end and the
hose attached to the other
suck a vacuum on both lines and adjust the restrictor so the balls rise in
the tube the same amount so you know
it is reading the same on both tubes.
we used one of these (glass tubes) on older race bikes to tune the carbs to
get the mixtures equal.
The carb tune system mentioned my stephan looks much the same

Hi Martin,
I have had great success with an electronic differential vacuum gauge
designed for motor cycles. It has variable sensitivity, it is so
sensitive that I can detect the difference in cable length. I have
tubes long enough that I can sit in the seat of the aircraft and run
the throttle up.

I found my dual pointer MAP gauge at the Oshkosh flea market for $15.

Have you considered a Twinmax balancing gauge - dead simple - works on the differential pressure between the two manifolds.

Just remove the balancing pipe and connect one pipe to each manifold. There is an access hole at the bottom of each Bing carburettor intended for balancing but its impossible to get at so a bit pointless. Using the manifold connections is just as good.
We used a twin mechanical vacuum gauge before and it was very hit and miss. First problem is that no two gauges are the same or equally linear accross the pressure band. Second is you have to damp out the oscillations caused by the fluctuating pressures.

It looked like a manifold pressure gauge for a twin-engine 'plane.
Often available on Ebay.
Very expensive solution to get them new!
