Are we sure the prop on that machine was facing into the wind? Don't vane-less wind generators usually have the generator/gearbox nacelle on the up-wind side and the prop turning on the down wind side? That would make the break-up slightly more mysterious as blades would then tend to be pushed away from the tower structure.
