I've been on this list since late 1998, flying since 2002. Never in that time has anyone written to comment on the actual experience of a runaway MAC/Ray Allen trim. Fuse it as per good aviation wiring procedures, or put it on a circuit breaker if it makes you feel more secure. The truth, as someone pointed out wisely a week ago, is that if a trim would ever "run away," you won't have time to pull the breaker before it goes to limits. Pulling the breaker will not restore it to normal - so why the extra expense of a breaker?
Just make it a habit to spend some time every few flight hours to practice running the trims (aileron, elevator) to limits and learning and reinforcing necessary compensation procedures. You practice slow flight, stalls, and simulated engine out every few hours, just make this part of the "practice checklist" you do at least monthly.
This list loves the "Do that and you're gonna DIE!" type topics so if anyone has actually experienced a MAC/Ray Allen trim runaway personally - none of that 'I heard' stuff - please post it here.
As with many things in life flying has its risks - manage those risks as you see fit. K.I.S.S.
...now, on with spring! jeff

I second Dave Gallagher's advice regarding a CB for the trim. The RAC instructions advise a 2amp fuse or breaker so buy a breaker that can be shut off if the problem arises. That's what I did as well.
