Hi Gary
My 503 idles on the ground somewhere around 2,200 rpms.
What it idles at when I am landing I have no idea; because during the landing I seldom look at the gauges.( I am too busy looking for deer Smile

Bill,
2500 was recommended when my firestar was first launched in 99.I kept balancing the carbs and reducing the rpm until I settled on 1750 rpm warm idle.Cold it actually runs above that, but after it's warm it holds steady and pretty smooth at 1750,with just a little rattle out of the gearbox .I have an after muffler on it so it's quiet at idle. You will not believe the difference in landing once you get used to the drag from the prop on approach and flare.I have flown it for 550 hours idling at that speed, the engine never, NEVER stalled and regular gearbox oil changes at about 75 hrs with no fuzz on the magnet.I did have an IVO 3 blade which probably helped keep it smooth. Roy Johnsen down in O'Brien Fl has it now and I'm flying the Mk-3.My personal opinion, the FS is the most nimble and fun to fly of the Kolb stable. Nice videos! Thanx,G. Aman
