It is with deep shock that I announce that we have lost our first Zenith Zodiac XL with both Pilot and passenger.
It only happened yesterday afternoon. The pilot was Garry Sweetnam, the Australian Zenith XL Distributer and he was on a VFR flight when it plunged into the ocean off the Goldcoast of Queensland. There were 20 people on the beach who witnessed this.
Garry was my friend he was also a LAME and the plane was built in the hanger along side other pipers and cessna's that were being worked on. So this was not a backyard outfit.
The plane was VH reg so the Civil Aviation people here (FAA) will investigate and give reports. Garry loved the XL and sang its praises so much he became a distributer.
Happy Sky's my friend. Garry left behind a wife and kids.
