Come on Marlowe... You should know better than that. Arion's site is not the only one that is succeptable to an occasional outage for maintenance or SW problem.

I was on the site last night with no problems. http://www.arionaircraft.com

Give it a half day and then try again. I'm sure you will find them back up. I would not let this deter you in any way regarding their product.

Let me know if you need any help

Jim!

In my recent attempts to visit arionaircraft.com I have met with one of those generic domain name available screens. What's the deal? Arion hasn't gone under has it? With all the tendency for aviation companies (especially kit based) to go belly up, when I saw the dead site, bankruptcy was my first reaction.

Green Landings seems to be the only real site associated with Lightning that's still alive. Did Green Landings buy out Arion?

Please tell me I'm missing a vital piece of information and they are still a healthy airplane kit selling company.

Confused and worried.

Marlowe and all others,

Arion Aircraft is fine and still open for business. We've experienced some
server issues for the past couple of days but those should be cleared up
shortly.

Rest assured we're still here.

Have a great day!

The Lightning web site may be down for a short time today as we change to a
different internet provider. Please bear with us.

Also - there may be some emails lost in the switch over so if you don't see
a response today or tomorrow to your email please send it again.

Hopefully we'll be up and running by end of the day

Well, they did manage to get into the Squirrel works "confidential level", but the Skunk works "top secret" level is still secure. Squirrel works photo attached. Notice the squirrel cage construction.

I'm glad to hear that it's just a server issue. It's an all too common thing in aviation for companies to go under (probably too many people who love flying and building and don't really care for running a business).

I hope Lightning is around for the long haul.

While I am not privy to the exact financials, I am quite confident in Pete and the Lightning folks. Arion is an independent corporation that contracts for engines, fiberglass moulding and hardware. While it has few hard assets, making it shallow pockets to the lawsuit; it has some strong associations. Pete's Jabiru sales lead the world in engines (and possibly airframes), keeping the hanger rent paid the and heat on.

Before we at Green Landings became a Lightning Dealer, a lot of questions were asked. From top to bottom, Arion checked out in terms of planning, funding and personnel. In fact, we were more than a little envious.

I found the speculation sparked by the website being down to be quite amusing.

Here's something that I found interesting the other day. The Liberty XL which is a normal category certified trainer. I got an email the other day that they were about 7-8 years in production and just sold the 100th airplane. Arion has been about a year and a half in production and just delivered around the 56th I think. Sure, one is not a kitplane, but still, I am impressed with the numbers in such a short time. Also lots of good modification and progress from the original airframe. It also seems like they are in large part making it backwards compatible so that owners of previous year models can make the jump to the latest and greatest improvements. Just thought I'd add that in. Brian W.

Well said, Doug.
I am confident that the entire Lightning team (and the word "team" includes all the dealers as well as the SYI Headquarters group) are a dedicated group of businessmen that just happen to also be aviation enthusiast. What could be a better combination than that.

Brian,
I certainly agree with your above statement, but what is even more impressive to me is that at least 22 are already flying.  I think that in itself may be some sort of record - to have that high of kit completion rate in such a short time. I don't know how we could check that out, but I can think of no other kit aircraft that can come close. The Lightning is definitely a winner - and a patriot, not a pinhead.

All,

I am beginning to get frustrated with this switch of web hosting companies. We decided to change to the new one because we plan on upgrading the flylightning.net site and the web designer I will be working with (the one currently helping me with the Jabiru USA site) has his own web hosting business. Our old provider is proving difficult to work with to allow us to get the job done. Net result is that it will take another day to get it all together.

Please be patient.

Wow, I am impressed to see that Arion has such a good reputation and is so highly regarded by you guys.

My only experience with Arion was talking with the guys at Sun-N-Fun and Osh Kosh for a while, sitting in the plane, and dreaming. That said, I was completely unaware of their business plan, practices, and reputation.

I'm in the dreaming stage of plane building and lurk around aviation sites to keep informed so when the time comes, I know which plane to go with. Your obvious satisfaction and proud association with Arion speaks very highly of their standards, product, and support. I hope to be able to visit and experience those things for myself soon.

Keep dreaming and working towards your goal. I did the same thing myself and eventually got myself in a position where I could afford to get started. The Arion bunch, and especially the group on here have been valuable in support, both emotionally and technically.

Good luck!

Josh,

The rest of us have spent our time dreaming, sitting in airplanes and talking to the pros also, so you are on the right track.

In the world of experimental aviation, there are a substantial number of wannabe companies. A significant number of them are staffed by "gipsy's, tramps and thieves". I cant name names in an email, but trust me, there are some outrageous stories out there, most of them true.

I made my decisions by flying the pre-prototype, spending time with the key people, working shoulder to shoulder with them building planes. In my opinion, it is the quality of the Arion people along with the quality of the Lightning customers that builds the strongest case. Building an airplane, even with builder assist is not an easy project. Lots of tough decisions and mental battles. Much easier to do a build with quality caring factory support....even when the support is "tough love"!!

An old sales rep told me, "I dont partner with people I would not want to have dinner with"! I wouldnt want to buy a plane from people I would not want to build with.

Good catch, Charles. OK, all you guys that have bought kits, click on the http://www.flylightning.net/ site about 10,000 each to get the numbers back up. Ready, set, go. First one to 10,000 let us know.
