Kolb guys,

Gentlemen, could someone kindly steer me in the right direction to start the licensing/registration process for my MkIII?

Up to this point I haven't done anything yet. That's because in the past I never had the feeling I was ever going to be actually finished building my MkIII. Sure, I worked on it...here and there...but there was always SOOO much to do, I just never had an idea it would ever be done. I've owned this blasted thing for almost 10 years!! Now, I think I can see "light at the end of the tunnel" (and no, it's not a train!!).

I have all my receipts, original Kolb Company invoice, etc, etc. I also have lots of photos of various stages of me building it.

Additionally, I am a former EAA member. I expect I am going to re-up, as it were! (military term, it means re-activate my old membership, for you civilians)
Well, enough babbling. Anyone care to point?

Hi Mike,

I suspect you will have to go and register as an "Expereimental, Amatuer
Built" category. Contact the EAA for the latest poop as to how to.

Start with a copy of FAA form 8050-1 from your local FSDO. Ask them if you need to fill out the 8050-1 or 8050-2. Then call the local MIDO office and have them send you the Amateur Registration packet for free. Find the local DAR in your area to help you through the process.

Basically, it's easy to fill out the 8050 form, but you need to fill it out properly or the FAA will reject it and the process will take a long time.

EAA does have an Amateur-Built packet that can lead you through the steps too for $12.99. Don't confuse it with the E-LSA packet, as that deadline expired on 1-31-08. There is no deadline for E-AB registration.

Ralph,

Much obliged re: the pointers.

For everyone's understanding, I'm not confusing my need for Amateur Built vs. E-LSA. I have ALWAYS intended on registering my MkIII "E-AB"

Thanks, guys.
