Hello list,

I'm deep into my first annual (condition) inspection (TT = 167 hrs!) and am having trouble figuring out how to inspect the wing spar and/or lift struts, other than just looking from the outside.
The lift struts are buried in their fairings and, of course, the spars are under the fabric. Sure, I can see the ends & outsides, but is that enough? What do you all do?
Sorry if this is a repeat subject.......I couldn't find it in the archives.

Thanks,

Grant Krueger

Hopefully you can remove your fairings to check rods ends and bolts.
No much you can do on a covered plane other than check for security of ribs by trying to move them from outside.

I looked at a Kitfox a few years ago that had been flipped and sunk while on floats. It was pulled out and never opened up and had no drain holes or seaplane grommets. When I grabbed the front and rear of wing at the tip i could actually twist the wing as it seemed that the ribs had become insecure or rotten inside. It was actually mushy feeling. Owner did not want to talk to me after I told him that.
