I'm building a 601HD, not an XL, but all of the aluminum in my plane is
6061-T6, with the exception of the wing root fairings, which are 1100.
The minimum thickness is .016. Maximum is in the wing splice plates,
which are about 3/16" (don't have the plans in front of me).

2024 series is a commonly approved substitute for Zenith aircraft. Of course, contact Zenith before doing so.

-Good luck!
