I use the EAA's method to test for ethanol in auto gas
Put small amount of water in a test tube, mark level, add 4 times more fuel,
cap, shake, let settle, if the "water" level increases above the mark then
alcohol is present, has joined with the original water and has settled out with
the original water. If water level remains at the mark there is no alcohol.
I get water at the gas station from the rest room. So I can't forget the kit
and leave it home I keep a test tube in a zip lock bag in my SUV with a section
of small diameter clear tube with an eye dropper seated in one end to pull gas
up and put it in test tube. Small, storeable, minimal waste and mess.
This is the same concept as found in recent postings on this thread, just on a
small easy to carry in your vehicle scale.
